Support Work in Schools is a vocational qualification offered at Levels 2 and 3
These qualifications are appropriate for those who undertake support work roles within schools,
including:
Administrators; receptionists; PAs; library assistants; data managers; technicians; IT support;
learning resources; caretakers; midday supervisors; special educational needs; learning support.
Candidates should be in current employment or working voluntarily within a school environment.
Supporting Teachers & Learning (formerly called Teaching Assistant NVQ) at Levels 2 and 3
Level 2
This NVQ will be suitable for you if you are a newly-appointed teaching assistant or if you have
some autonomy in your role as a teaching assistant but most activities are carried out under the
guidance of the classroom teacher. This NVQ is suitable if you work in any stage of education
from reception to post-16 and in any type of mainstream or special school. The main thing for
this NVQ is that your job role must give you the opportunity to be involved in the following
types of activity:
Level 3
This NVQ will be suitable for you if you are an experienced teaching assistant with some
autonomy in your working role and/or you have responsibility for a varied range of pupil-based
activities. This NVQ is suitable if you work in any stage of education from reception to post-16
and in any type of mainstream or special school. The main thing for this NVQ is that your job
role must give you the opportunity to be involved in the following activity:
